Another focus of the clinic is the treatment of facial and cranial malformations (craniosynostoses). During the consultation, the initial examination is performed and the specific treatment options are discussed with the parents or the affected persons.
In recent years, the various types of skull deformities have increased both in Germany and internationally.
Skull deformities have different causes. They can be congenital due to premature closure or lack of application of cranial sutures as well as due to incorrect positioning of the child.
A genetic cause is found primarily in syndromal forms of craniosynostosis. Non-syndromal craniosynostoses may also have a genetic component.
Various therapeutic options are available for cranial deformities. Depending on the cause of the head deformity, a wide range of therapies can be offered, from conservative to changes in positioning, from physiotherapy to surgery.
Since cranial deformities represent a very complex clinical picture, interdisciplinary and standardized care of young patients is extremely important.
For this reason, primary surgeries for cranial malformations are performed together with neurosurgery physicians at the end of the 1st year of life, and follow-up care is carried out jointly.
